SLUMS IN INDIA

In our house, we have several rooms, a bedroom for each one, a kitchen with an oven, a microwave, a fridge... We can eat 5 times a day, we go to school, we can watch television, we have a work and we earn money... We also have a toilet, current water, electricity, swimming pools and baths. Well, we have a house.

Our house is more or less like that.

But not all people in the world live that way. Right now, in India, fifty per cent of the population live in slums. They haven't electricity, current water, toilets or showers. Instead, they have torches, wells, holes in the ground and they wash themselves with buckets of water. They wash their clothes introducing them in buckets of water, too. Sometimes, they can't eat for 2 or 3 days, because they can't get food. While we are living in houses in good conditions, they live in slums, in the worst conditions. And it's not fair; we have to change that.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VIDEO:
RICH vs. POOR

This video shows the difference between rich and poor people in Mumbai. At the beginning of the video, there is a big mall. Then, the camera goes across a street, looks across a river and there is a neighborhood full of slums, and big buildings on the background. The reporter enters a house. It is more or less as large as the bathrooms of our school, and 7 people are living in it. The man with the orange handkerchief earns 73 dollars a month. His slum is made of plastics, pieces of wood and leaky cloth. The goats walk around and enters the slums to eat leaves from a tree branch. Basically, they live with them. Just across a river behind a slum, there are other slums with giant piles of trash. And behind them, there are a lot of big buildings, with ads of things that people from slums can't buy. We can say that wealth and poverty live very near in Mumbai. India has a population of over a billion of people, and 25 percent of the population live in extreme poverty.

The video continues in Dharavi slums, the second largest slums in the world. Almost 55 per cent of the population of Mumbai live here. In Dharavi slums, there are some little rivers with trash, and people wash themselves and drink this water, that carries a lot of diseases. The man that is being interviewed says that the water is not good, but people become immune to some diseases.

After, the reporter goes to a group of houses that were built for people that lived in slums. She enters the house of a woman that lived in a slum for 30 years, and now live in the building. Across the window, she can see the same slum in which she lived. The reporter interviews one of the woman of the slums. She says that in the new building there is regular water supply, television, private bathroom...Then, she interviews a taxi driver from the slums. He says that he went to Mumbai to make money, and he left his wife in the country. A lot of people migrate from the country to the cities.

After that, the reporter goes to the country, and talk to a teen that is right: he says that poor people in India are going to stay poor because rich people are going to make themselves richer, while poor people are going to be increasingly poor.

THE STRAUSS FAMILY By:Pablo Amador García Carrrión

The Strauss family, in Langhope, Gloucestershire, has tried to reduce their garbage. But they have done an amazing skill: they've filled only a bin in a hole year! Verona, Rachelle and Richard have recycled all their garbage, except rubbish that can't be recycled. The rest goes to recycling bins, compost or they re-use it. They've used the same plastic bag to go shopping a lot of times, they've grown their own food in their garden, and buyed strictly what they've need. The next year, they want to throw anything to their bin. Will they obtain it?

Reforestation

Last summer, me, my brother, my father, some of their his friends and other people went to Sierra Nevada to reforest a zone that was burned by a fire. It was hard to reforest a huge zone like this! Some people were bringing the baby trees, others were making holes; and others were planting the trees. It took all day to plant all the trees, but we enjoyed the picnic lunch! The food was very tasty. Thanks to this, someday the forest will regrow and it'll be a great, green and beautiful wood.

MY FAVOURITE FASHION ITEMS

I have many different clothes, but i specially love three of them: my DC, black sweatshirt, my jeans and my headphones.I usually wear my black sweatshirt to go to school, to go partying or to meet friends. I also like to to wear jeans. I have a lot of jeans, and i don't specially like one of them, but it's a fantastic fashion item. You can wear jeans to go anywhere! They are suitable for everything apart from sport or summer (in summer i prefer to wear shorts). And finally, I have my headphones. They are big, black and green. I listen to music with them, but i sometimes wear them to go out with my friends. It's also a fashion item, and very trendy!
